I usually do real simple, I mean real simple earrings. But, I am challenging myself to make something more elaborate. I have a jig and I've done some Peruvian style earrings. I tend to wear my earrings and I don't like them getting caught in my hair. I want to make some now for the fun of it whether I wear them or not.
Can anyone point me to some eye candy for earrings? I went through all the tutes at JL and nothing screamed at me. I want to do wire earrings with some pretty glass beads I have.

This is a test of a photobucket clickable thumbnail. Hopefully I did it right. Ok, when I sit down to make earrings, this is the kind of lame thing that I come up with. I'd like to do more than just put beads on a wire. I have a lot of pretty beads that I got just for earrings. They are filling bins waiting for me to do something nice with them.

Thanks Renate, I had almost forgotten about anikosandor aka Ankio. She is fabulous and I love her work. Unfortunately, for me, I think we have the same tastes and after seeing her flickr account, it's going to be hard not to be too close. In fact, I was playing around with ideas today and came up with a few very similar things without even seeing her account. I have to get her out of my head for awhile. ;D

Oh and yes, those are wire beads in the middle, I didn't make them, though.

Maybe eye candy is not such a good idea after all. It is lovely to look at, but somehow stifles our own creativity by making us aware what already had been done. I wish you had followed your own ideas, and if there is a resemblance, then perhaps it is a case of "Great Minds".
If you don't mind I would like to challenge you (and everybody else, myself included) on this. See the Challenges board.

I have the same problem with earrings. I am also useless at getting both exactly the same, symetrical wise!! I like the horizontal idea as opposed to the traditional vertical drop. Though, to get horizontal there will have to be vertical obviously !!! I have always fancied having a go at making some using an abacus as inspiration!! - Hope this makes sense, my brain is going faster than I cant type!! ha ha

I'm also symmetrically challenged. Got the excellent advice to work both parts simultaneously, step by step. It does work, but frankly, I don't like it very much, because it doesn't go well with my creative process, which is absolutely chaotic. There is no place for repetitions. But there is an alternative: mismatched pairs! Just like in real life. ;D

Now that is an awesome idea!!! I love it!!. I'm chaotic too, think im alergic to order and conformity!! You have reminded me of when I was growing up, odd socks were all the thing - flourescent at that!!

I've never heard or thought of doing all the steps together on each earring. I don't think I could work like that. I don't usually have a problem with making them the same- just with making some variety. I like the challenge you created. It will be a difficult one for me, I think. (Which is good!)

Tela, you are great with symmetry with all of your jewelry. This is one thing about your work this is so interesting to me and works especially well with that art deco era style. I find that working with bail making pliers with matching earrings helps to keep things more uniform due to the tool tips being uniformly cylindrical. With the round nose, there is room for error with the tapered tips, even when marking your area of interest on the pliers with a permanent marker. Anyway, I would so wear these earrings you have in the photo. They would go with just about anything.

Unusual, custom made earwires can elevate a simple earring design to something special.

Great point!!! ;D I often overlook that and just throw earwires on mine. I've seen some really nice ones, too.
