This is such an opportune time for me to start this gallery of my wire work jewelry because I am in a state of evolution. For a long time, I have had an identifiable look. And, for a long time, I have been trying to find a name for it. Just this week, Renate challenged me to do some Steampunk jewelry. I started googling looking for the "look"and trying to come up with an idea. I did a few sketches and realized that I couldn't wrap (pun intended ;D) my brain around it. Also, I stumbled on the sub genre of Dieselpunk. DieselPunk is Deco influenced rather than Victorian influenced. It's really right up my alley! I was soooo excited to find a niche and one that isn't already overcrowded. Here's a few links to check it out. People get pretty serious about their genres, but I think you can get an idea of the "look" from the links. dieselpunk44.blogspot.com/ Basically, it's the neo look of the 20's, 30's and 40's. I prefer the film noir and deco side of it. Although, I LOVE the deco-dence look and prefer to design in that vein, I do lots of other stuff. I like to try new things and evolve as an artist. This is the piece I was working on for two days. I sent Renate a sketch of it with the working title "Tesla". She mentioned that it reminded her of the Statue of Liberty and I agree. So, it is now "Liberty". Thanks, Renate! Originally the lines/rays were supposed to be jagged like electricity or lightning. This way ended up being easier AND I like it. Attachments:

Forgot to mention that the connecting rings are meant to look like flames. This was a fun piece to do. I got to work out a few issues I had with the technique and hone my Dieselpunk/Decodence look. The necklace was a bear to do because the stone's color is so deceiving. It seems blue, but it is purple and just when you are decided that it is purple, it is blue! I settled on the baby blue in the stone and purple. This is a Mojave Turquoise. It is the first one that I've had. I emailed the guy I bought it from to find out if I could tumble it, got tired of waiting for a response and tumbled it anyway. It worked out fine. Attachments:

Don't you just love Mojave Turquoise! I must get myself some!

Thanks, Glenda I contacted the man who sold me the stone and asked him if it was ok to tumble. I went ahead and did it before he got back to me. He wasn't sure, but offered to repolish it if it needed it. That was so good of him Yeah, now I totally want more!

Your work is so beautiful, Tela!
I love your style, and I love your sense of color. I really appreciate precise wire wrapping and unique approaches to wrapping stones, and you've mastered both! Keep up the great work.

Ohh, I love this piece, Tela! The amethyst -- which I had to type three times to get right because I was excited -- is such an awesome touch!

Thanks, Sarah! The colors in this really came together and they both helped the other pop! It's really interesting in person. I don't think I could have picked a better amethyst for this. Sometimes- everything works out right
