Hello all! Well, I finally managed to come and have a look. (Thanks Renate for the invite!) This forum looks really fabulous!! Well, what about me? I'm Jana, and I'm a bead/gemstone/sparklies addict. I'm sure many of you can relate. I also love to set them apart with beautiful wire work. As you may have guessed from the title, I live in Spain, on one of the Canary Islands. In real life I'm a translator, interpreter and language teacher. Looking forward to getting to know all of you better. (Time allowing, of course, I need a couple more hours a day, if anyone knows where I might be able to buy some... ) Jana

Hi Jana! Welcome! What an interesting introduction! So, I have to ask, how many languages do you speak? I can't tell you how many people I have met in my life that say they loved Spain over every country they had visited. I hear it's an artists dream come true.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I think I recognise some of the names around Tela, I speak only 3 languages with enough proficiency to list them as "working languages". This means I'm not only fluent in them, but I also know enough of the culture and customs of the countries where it is spoken to catch all the "finer details" that would usually escape someone who's not a native speaker (i.e. irony, sayings and phrases, veiled hints that are cultural related...) Those are: Spanish (which is my native language, I grew up in Spain), German (my mother is from Germany, so I have been speaking it since I was little) and English (learned at school and been improving it continually with classes and trips to the UK and guess what else? forums and jewellery tutorials ) I can also speak a little french and I am able to understand (but not talk) Italian and Portugese. Spain is a beautiful country, with a nice climate most of the year and best part is supposedly the food Vicky, that's a gorgeous cat! Cheers, Jana

Welcome, Jana! I envy your language skills! At one point or another, I have studied Spanish, French, German, and Russian. I still do OK with the Spanish, as I lived in Mexico when I was younger and really got it into my brain intuitively, but the others have mostly been lost to lack of use. I always expected I would be a world traveler O.o , guess it's still not too late. Spain is certainly on the list. I've always wanted to play the piano, too, but not there yet, either!
Vicky, your cat is adorable :-D I am definitely a cat lover!
