I've been making jewelry for over 20 years, ever since I fell in love with a pair of sequin earrings at the mall when I was just nine years old... and decided to make my own. I'm fond of chain maille. I made my Honeycomb necklace with aluminum and rubber rings. It took a lot of work, but I was so excited to see the finished project, I swear I finished it in less than a week. Attachments:

Here's another chain maille necklace, Atoms. It's made with aluminum and rubber jump rings, paillette sequins, and handmade silver head pins. This is one of my favorite pieces! -- Sarah SaturdaySequins.comAttachments:

Hi Sarah- Thank you for sharing your work, it's lovely! The chain maille is amazing!! If that only took a week, I have to ask, did you sleep?? You are very versatile and your eye for color is so well developed.

Tela and Laura, Thank you for your kind words! Tela, I slept a little bit, but I'm sure I missed a few meals. That happens to me when I get into my jewelry making frenzies.

Glenda, Thank you so much!!! I spent about 10 years wanting to do bead embroidery and not knowing how to start. I've decided to do a tutorial on my blog at some point, and when I do, I'll make a forum post about it, in case you want to give it a try.

Thank you, Tela! What a wonderful compliment. I'm looking forward to doing the tutorial! I expect to have plenty of time when Mr. Sequin is done for the semester and is available to man the camera.

Here's a project I finished just yesterday. The most complicated one I've done so far. The only thing I planned in advance was the placement of the buttons and wire squiggles on the heart. Everything else is improvised. Not only is this my most complicated piece of bead embroidery, but it's also the first time I've tried using wire shapes. I'll definitely do it again! Attachments:

LOVE that beaded heart. I don't think I would have the patience for that kind of work, and I admire those who do...

Sarah, I saw the heart on your blog and have been so busy, I haven't gotten to commenting on it. It is lovely!! I can't believe that you didn't plan ahead. It really looks like you did. I like the way it hangs, too. But, what I really like is the color!! You have a way with using stand out, eye popping color without being garish or tacky. The heart piece is really a delight.

Sarah, what beautiful pieces. Your eye for color is apparent in everything that you have posted. There is a calm that goes right to the brain when viewing your work. The heart and the colors of the heart appealed to me. It is fascinating how you included wire with the beads and buttons on this. And little flowers sequins to make a ring!! Pretty!!

Here's one of my latest pieces. I like to think of it as a tale of bead embroidery and chain maille meeting... and knowing they were meant for each other. Because I'm sappy. Attachments:

Beautiful!! How does the button clasp work? Is it a rubber ring that goes over it? It must have taken so long!!! I have had a go at creating something similar (I use the word similar very loosely! ha ha) but I always get stuck with the backs. I was told to stick fabric on but my glue always shows through!! I bet your heart doesn't stick around for long!! Love seeing your work and hope you are keeping well x

Another mind boggling, stunning creation!! The chain goes so perfectly, too. I can't even imagine doing anything like this- makes my brain hurt thinking of it. But, you seem to have no problem, at all. And the colors...!!!!!!

Tela, Thanks so much! I'm similarly awestruck by your wire wrapping. Especially when you combine wire and seed beads!!! Glenda, Yup, that's a rubber ring, and it stretches right over the top of the button. Gluing can be a tricky thing -- somehow, I always manage to get it all over my hands. And clothes. And face. The trick to the glue not showing through is to spread the glue across the piece with a toothpick or paint brush so it's thinner towards the edges, and to avoid gluing the very, very edge -- which will make it easier to sew the beaded edging on, too. I hope this helps! I use GemTac glue, which dries clear, can be wiped away with a damp paper towel, and which isn't terribly strong, so if I cut too much of the backing off, I can always pull it away.
