the exact and up to date (up to minute?) number is here: www.etsy.com/category/jewelry?ref=fp_ln_jewelry2,742,477 items in Jewelry at the moment of writing this. Making a sale is not a miracle, as long as you believe in what you do, have a decent product and dedication to work every day on improving your shop (photos, SEO). I'm packing two orders this weekend, feeling pretty happy And the internal traffic is awesome compared to other places.

Congrats for the sales! 2,7million surely is an impressive figure. I assume the sales are impressive, too, even if spread out a bit ;D. I know some sellers dislike etsy, but as a buyer I love it, at least since they have organized their shopping cart better. Though I think twice to buy, because it is rather expensive. But then I rather buy supplies than an end product. Compared to ebay, which feels absolutely anonymous and mass market, etsy still has the feel of a village, with some real people. Not much to do with this topic, but here's a hilarious spoof. ;D If you understand German, switch off the sound. youtube.ng/watch?gl=US&feature=related&v=_K923nC_a6s

;D Great job on the sales!!! To what do you give credit (other than it being beautiful)? Was it keywords, browsing or what?
I have stayed away from Artfire and Etsy because of the vast numbers there. It has to be real hard to get noticed.

I'm not sure.. I've asked my customers how did they find me before, and all of those who responded said they came via site search. So I'd say keywords.
Numbers are crazy, but this being a social network, there's also that networking thing going on - favorites, circles, treasuries.. Many items are being discovered that way. And there's a crazy number of people browsing too. Something I'm missing on RubyPlaza - traffic.

RP isn't looking too good. Maybe I should bite the bullet and get onto artfire or etsy.... I so do not want to open another store.....

I'm super excited today - my earrings were on the front page of Etsy!! For one hour only, but it brought close to a thousand clicks No sales, but lots of exposure and "hearts". I'll probably keep Ruby for as long as it's free to see if anything changes there - apart from the place getting overloaded with factory stamped stuff (they don't have any limitations on what you can sell, do they? ). Not planning to update it much. I'm now thinking maybe even the ugly handmadeartistsshop.com/ has more potential - they at least have their identity and a mission to keep the site handmade only, that should take them somewhere me thinks. I don't want to open another store too, but I want to find what works for me.. it takes some experimenting and jumping around..

Thrilled for you that you made it to the etsy front page, Laura! Which item was it? Tela, I do understand so very well that you don't want to open yet another shop, and I don't want to convince you otherwise, but think it's a pity you don't have one on etsy. One thing has to be said in favour of etsy, they have great ideas, and there is always something going on. I have subscribed to various newsletters, and love to browse the treasuries. Speaking of treasuries, I would like to make one to include the members here. I wonder, is it allowed to make a jewelry-only treasury? I seem to remember that you have to use items of various categories.

This one www.etsy.com/listing/94097815/With this "romantic spring" treasury www.etsy.com/treasury/MTE0Mzg3NjJ8MjQyNDM1ODEwMA/You can make as many treasuries as you like, as often as you want, on any subject/theme you like, any items.. It's now allowed to do whatever you please, but a jewelry-only treasury is very unlikely to appear on the front page.. There's a real treasury inflation now with hundreds (thousands?) created every hour - unless you belong to some treasury promotion team, you are very unlikely to get any attention.. The largest benefit of Etsy over other marketplaces - it has a huge community. And sometimes you even wonder if it's a social network with shopping features or vice versa. Yeah, and there's so much going on that I sometimes hardly find the time to do anything else! (like yesterday evening it was all treasury time)

You know- that's exactly why I don't want to do etsy. I don't even grasp the concepts of half of what they do let alone give 2 flying s***s about it. I want to sell, not play and hold hands. A store should be a store. I don't have time to jump through all their hoops for a small chance to sell something. I can't even stand to shop there. I like artfire, though- it's a bit better to shop at IMHO. Etsy has too much going on. I get overwhelmed and I leave. OOOOOO, did I just sound cranky, or what?

you did sound overwhelmed You know, I hated most of that "social network" stuff too, and ignored it for the most part.. until just recently And I can say that it's completely possible to just sell, without all those treasury games, circling and jumping around hearting stuff. Some people who cannot make the search system work for them rely solely on social networking to sell, but I believe you can do titles/keywords thing, it's not a rocked science. And you already have fabulous pictures - something that most people struggle with.

I cannot remember which thread it was but you girls asked to share how the beaded pebbles are doing So I'm packing the first pebble necklace to fly to Minnesota today It's my 5th sale on Etsy this month.. could be better, but then I have zero sales in other shops.. Ruby is totally dead, and for the Ecwid to ever come alive I'd need to work more on my blog..

That's awesome, Laura!!!! ;D
My rp is really weird. The stats seem to contradict themselves. I have been as high as 5% on the click rate but I'm at 0 points now. My average has been great! My views are going up, but erratic. I know someone is looking... I had an offer on a pendant, but it was far too low to accept. She wanted me to come down 50.00. Umm.... no.

I had a shop on Etsy and on ArtFire and I closed down both at the time they were messing with their sellers big time. Since then I absolutely refused to go back. I have a shop on Zibbet. When they had that lifetime account promotion, currency rates were really in favor for me, so I hopped on. When I left AF, my main shop, I was glad Zibbet had the AF importer, it made things pretty easy. My views are going up there as well now, but I'm just not sure about traffic.
Any more social networking and my head will explode. I'm a lousy seller and promoter ;D
As a buyer I like Etsy's search better than AF's. I never seem to find stuff there and it can't just be mistagging. I know when I made collections for my guild for example my items should have come up as well because they were taked with the guild name, but only half showed. Weird.
Laura, congrats on making the Etsy front page!
