Well, you know, when people say "I like" and no "but" follows, I always get suspicious ;D The little guy is Cheburashka, a cartoon character from my childhood , and his ears remind me of the side loops on my earrings.. or vice verse. OK, here goes the variation, opinions?

What a cute little guy ;-). I think it is better with the additional beads, but it emphasizes the horizontal even more. You are probably right that the "ears" are too big. ;D I do like the shape because it keeps me busy thinking about it. But I admit this is not going to be my favourite piece of yours. (remind me that I want to ask you about your beaded beads) Now I must log off for a while, so that you can have your fun with my horizontal piece as well. I haven't even begun! Btw, in the rules it says nowhere that the whole piece must be horizontal, only that it should have a horizontal element in it.

Wow, these are great! Laura and Tela, I love your interpretations of the horizontal element. That's the part that's really challenging me right now (well, that and the time crunch). I may not get a piece done in time to submit for this challenge, but I have enjoyed seeing what you ladies are coming up with

Hope I wasn't rude, Laura. Just one thing to add: this is not a contest, but a challenge, and even more so, an experiment. Experiments are about observation and learning from the result. So far I have learned here that horizontal and earrings is probably a contradiction in itself.

Hope I wasn't rude, Laura. Please don't be paranoid ;D I'm loving this experiment, and I'm waiting for more people to join (how about a new deadline? +2/3 days?) Also, I haven't replied immediately because I'm busy with canning my hot sauce (just finished) and wrapping another horizontal nonsense. You are very right about the additional beads emphasizing the whole horizontalness of the thing. But I quite like it. To the point where I cannot decide - wrap another one or remove those extra beads.

I hope you don't mind me posting another one? It seems that from being "horizontally challenged" I'm turning into "horizontally obsessed". Don't be surprised to see me going horizontal for at least another month.. I need to explore it now. This game certainly helped to move the block, and even forget the current stress and mess in my life.. (and mess on the table which was a "reason" I couldn't do anything.. it appears I can ignore it) [And again (always) I'll be grateful for honest opinions without bubblewrap ]

I may not get a piece done in time to submit for this challenge Dearrings, post whenever you are ready. Looks like this challenge experiment could continue for a while. I'm late to this myself, and only now warming up.

Laura, I'm glad you are getting into this experiment - I hope it will last a while, and new members will join in.
I love the longer hangers, and the tiny black beads. The overall shape is more balanced now. Could you replace the red bead with a longish briolette? Would give the piece a nice triangle shape.
I think the other piece would benefit from longer hangers, too. Oh, forgot to mention, have you tried to use it upside down, without the drop?

That was the original idea but I don't have anything suitable.. anywhere in sight... have to dig deeper. Oh, forgot to mention, have you tried to use it upside down, without the drop? I've tried so many variations that I don't remember now.. but I remember thinking about it

Ok, this is the last one for now, I promise. Changed one red bead to black leaf. The earring looks much more "normal" now. But I like the red one too And I just cannot stop being amazed at how much a single bead can change the whole look. www.cookonstrike.com/photo/vs3.jpg [/img]

D, I am more than happy to wait as long as you need. This proved to be quite a challenge! These little challenges are more meant to inspire and stimulate than be written in stone.

I agree! The black one is stunning! It has an indescribably lovely taper now. I'm becoming horizontally obsessed now too ( but by this, I mean I need sleep Thanks for the deadline extension. I'll see if I can post something by Tuesday.

Thanks for the feedback! At this point horizontal-1 was left with empty "ears" (and jumpring was replaced with 8 link to let them hang a bit lower), and the horizontal-2 is all black. I think I'm done tweaking them. I'm so impatient to see what others create!!

I like yours way better than mine. I didn't like my first pair, at all. Actually, it never made it to the pair stage ;D I can't wait to see the rest, either.

Really like the black pair. Like the movement. The addition of the chain fixed exactly what I couldn't put my finger on in the first pair. Renate, you devil. Who knew this would be such a challenge. I finally am really excited after at least 5 starts and styles. It has been a fascinating process. When do we post? Are we posting any size photo or do we need to stay small for storage? This challenge is just what I needed! Thank you

I love the black leaf ones Laursa!! Im glad there is an extension - I have a plan!! ha ha

After 6 totally different prototypes, I am pleased with the final results. I started with something similar to Tela's first post, went through, 3 woven designs... Lately, I have been working with Abby Hook's new designs. I wanted to get back to my start into metals so...TaDa! The horizontal piece is Pat Capo's herringbone weave. The pieces are textured with a hammer. Riveting is getting easier. I am totally out of ear wire gauge. I like earring designs to be mirror images which is not always easy. C&C welcome. This was an interesting journey! Renate, I like your earrings, the colors work well and the design looks like it has movement. I think you should create another one! Was there a second pair?? The picture was tiny and wouldn't enlarge. Attachments:

Wow, the interpretations are so different! So interesting to see them side by side! Renate - those are nice, why don't you want to make "pairs"? I quite like both of them and they are even wearable The triangle one reminds me of one piece I made for a friend - custom order using her beads in black/red/white (black lava cylinder in the center); they looked rather strange to me at the time of making, but she loves them and wears a lot. Christine - wow. Really unexpected design. Like them! It would be very interesting to see the "journey" that led to this if you still have any "evidence" and would be willing to share

Christine, your earrings are lovely! I like the horizontal bar in particular. There must have gone a LOT of work into these tiny things. How much time did it take you to make them?
Glenda, good to see you back! Can't wait to see *your* horizontals.

Right, well the initial idea I had for these earrings didn't work first time and I don't really have enough time right now to put into it So, I kind of cheated. As I was looking around my desk waiting for inspiration to strike my eyes set upon my noodle man on his sun bed!! As a sunbed would look silly hanging I have made him (very poorly as I rushed it!!) a hammock. My noodle man is chilled out and horizontal!! Sorry about the picture too (that's if you can see it at all I haven't uploaded from photobucket before!) - more haste less speed!! It's on the wonk too! Anyone else having that problem? Im editing in Picnik and rotating it. Then for some reason where ever I choose to use it it rotates back wonky again ?? Need more hours inthe day!! i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j325/jcicjewellery/Laidbackandhorizontal.jpg I think I will have to put some time into setting up my light tent. * Runs off to read photography thread*

Renate, I especially like the second pair, the beads on all of the segments add a lot of interest to the design! Glenda, your photo was too small and would not enlarge. Thanks Renate and Laura for the positive comments on my earrings. Laura, is unexpected design a good thing?? They did take several hours and a lot of hammering. Doing them again would not take as long especially since I made a long strip of Pat's herringbone weave.

Good morning all! I leave for awhile and the forum grows earrings! Renate, I LOVE the second pair. I would wear them and could have made them myself They look the most to be horizontal, too. Christine! Have you found your niche?? You do such really great work with metal. I love these! Honestly, I really admire your metal work, you seem a natural. Glenda! Leave it to you to come up with something so unique. Very nice and interesting. Loved your blog post! Haven't had a chance to post a comment, yet.
