This morning, I spent the better part of an hour trying to mend a BRAND NEW[/i][/u] coat! It has never been worn before. I had to do it on the outside because it is lined and it was a PITA! I checked the coat over before I bought it. You know, zippers, snaps, pockets... but I didn't check the seam under the arm. My grandson wore it for the first time this morning and when he lifted his arms, I noticed. This wasn't a cheap coat. I don't have the receipt and my grandson picked it out as his absolute favorite, so I opted to mend.
Last week, I bought an expensive Halloween costume for my granddaughter and guess what? The seams on both sides were coming undone. When it was sown up at the Chinese factory, they caught just the edge of the fabric, so it pulled right out. I was stuck because she needed it for the dance the next day, directly after school AND she had to wear the costume to school. I ended up having to make a seam allowance and sew back from that. Another PITA. We had no time to return it and I remembered they had no other like it in her size. Sure, they had some real sleazy little girl French maid costumes and the like, but NOT on my dime! Nope, she is too young to be a hoochie girl for Halloween.
Money is hard to come by these days. When I spend it, I want it to spend it on something worthwhile. I feel like they should pay me for my time to make it right! I could go on about the lack of quality in goods these days, but I won't.
Ok, I just had to get that off my chest. I feel much better.
