I have always wanted to make pumpkin soup for Halloween and never quite managed it!! I wonder if any of you have a recipe (could have googled but I thought this would be more personal) either a family one or one that you can reccommend for me to have a crack at? What else can be made with pumpkins? Pumpkin pie? - Any offers? I have embarked on an organic pumkin seed bead journey and am thinking of buying some more pumpkins - they are ridiculously cheap now that Halloween has gone - but it just seems so wrong to take out the seeds and throw the rest away!! I'm all ears x

We have only used the seeds. My mother was an excellent cook and very knowledgeable about all things gastromonique. She always told me that pumpkins bred for carving aren't very good for recipes. Having said, a pumpkin is a squash- maybe any good squash recipe would work. I love Butternut stuffed shells. Here is a link to another version of mine that looks good. www.food.com/recipe/butternut-squash-stuffed-shells-390305 I would try something similar, improvise and not invest too heavily on fancy cheese. edit- I googled "stuffed shells squash"

Ah ha, didn't think about the fact they were purely grown for carving. Hmmm might not make very nice eating!!! Thanks for the recipe link. Think I'll have a go anyway - just to see!

I'd try it, too- but we got a real little pumpkin this year. This was my grand daughter's. It's insanely happy.

Ok...I love anything pumpkin and generally make loads of pie and bread this time of year...and on t hrough spring, I supposne.
I have a friend I walk with and yesterday she told me that pumpkin (of the pie making variety) is good for dogs! A great treat, she saw it on animal planet, or something. I thought that was interesting and am planning on giving some to my girl Dottie to see how she likes it.
I was googling Pumpkin Smoothies as I had heard that they were good for you! I love to have a "Pumpkin Latte" and some of them I have had are made with actual pumpkin in the latte.
So much for what I know about what you can make with pumpkin.

I'm afraid I cannot contribute much, except that I like pumpkin only when it doesn't taste like pumpkin at all. So the only recipe I know is designed to cover the taste, it is basically the freestyle recipe for smooth vegetable cream soup with a lot of spices. So what's the point using pumpkin at all? Nevertheless I grow pumpkins in my garden because they are so beautifully vigorous and unruly, and every gardener loves big fruits. And then I can feel generous giving them away! But there are indeed big differences in taste between the pumpkin varietes, and it may be that my dislike of the pumpkin taste comes from those that were grown for carving only, and not for taste. Don't afflict them on your family! Not very helpful at all, I know!

Kit! Thanks for the info . I'm curious about pumpkin pie now! Maybe you wouldn't mind sharing your recipe and I could buy a suitable pumpkin!! ;D ....I wonder if my dogs could tell the difference between 'carving' pumpkin and 'eating' pumpkin? Thanks Renate!! Knowing they were grown for carving makes me feel o'k about throwing them away! So, although I don't have a recipe I have learnt something.....If the children are naughty I will make them eat pumpkin grown specifically for carving! ;D

Ok...I was so busy yesterday...working and then going to a bead support group....we are supporting each other in doing a bead embroidery cuff, from a "kit" to learn "how to"
The pumpkins you carve are not the pumpkins you eat. I believe they are actually a gourd rather than a fruit. Though we do eat the seeds. The pumpkin pie I make I can get the recipe, is from the can I buy to make it. Sometimes I add a little more ginger and a little less cloves but basically it is from the can (that way I don't have to worry about where the recipe is.
Do you want that recipe? I can type it here, but not much good for you really.
