Ha ha! In the mood for creating jewelry, I mean. ;D Got your attention, though. I was thinking, what makes you want to sit down and create. Is it when it is quiet? When your favorite music is playing? When you have nothing better to do? Do you find you work best when you have a deadline or plenty of time to go between projects? I mean this to be a different question than "What inspires you?" I can easily be inspired but be in no mood to sit down and create. That's when I like to jot down notes for when I do want to sit and create. After many years of thinking that I needed plenty of peace and quiet with the stereo gently wafting in... I have come to the conclusion that I actually want to work when a bunch of people are around and with plenty of chaos, and perhaps even a short deadline. The Dicken's, you say!!! Yup, with all the kids here, I have found this to be true. However!- I do need quiet time to design. But, I work so well when there are people to chat with and no time to second guess myself. Like a lot of artist's, I am plagued with self doubt, so it helps to "Just Do It". I began to notice this when my hands were itching to pick up tools while sitting around talking. I guess, it would be akin to knitting or crocheting while watching tv or chatting. Anyway, maybe understanding our creative needs will help us allot our time better.

George Clooney ....Ah? oh!! for creating jewellery!! ;D When my muse is with me and inspiration strikes I can work with a house full (good job really!) as well as I can with an empty house as long as I am not constantly interupted!! Sometimes I have music on low, but only occasionally and I don't need it. I can't remember the last time I was bored with nothing to do, must have been around ten I guess!! On the odd occasion I have a few hours to myself, if my muse has gone I can quite easily sit and stare blanky, achieving nothing! That is sooo frustrating. I spend so much time waiting for time to myself, to finally get it and not be able to create anything makes me cross with myself!!

You did get my attention! My situation is unique in that we have an empty nest now that our 2 daughters have moved on although our youngest is temporarily home to save for a travel adventure We are happy she is here and excited for her adventure yet.. travel always worries a momma. Anyway, I am usually alone and most of my time is spent reclining. I create morning into evening, with enforced breaks. I can create with music, a pod cast, audio books( are my new favs as I miss reading), or with my husband or daughter and a movie. When I don't create is when I am around my 23 month old grandson. He has my 100% and it is a true delight. He notices the pretties I wear. Designing comes in waves when my muse is flowing and then it feels grand, I dream designs and then my work feels inspired. Everything I do is filtered through pain and medication. Maybe that is why sometimes, I just weave. Creating sustains me and gives me the energy to keep going. Glenda, you have little ones around so life is very full and busy just with the day to day. I would imagine when you do get a quiet moment, you may need to just relax, breathe and regroup. Frustrating creatively but necessary sanity wise. I am impressed with all you do get done. Tela, I am thrilled to know you can create with your family all around. They are giving you good energy. With less quiet time, you are accomplishing more than you thought.

Christine, I was sorry to hear your pain is so constant:(( It's amazing that you stay so kind and don't smack us all with irritation:))
I don't know what gets me in the mood honestly! But I have been listening to a song wirtten and sung by my nephew and it makes me long to pull wire through my hands and weave a tapestry as beautiful as his song and as heart felt. Can't imagine yet what this 'tapestry' would look like though;)

So George it is!! Seriously, the two things that get me going are calm quiet, inspiration and deadlines. Challenges are just that. Love challenges. I was even thinking of a challenge for songs. I mean, I know that this is not the thread for this, but Mary talks about her nephew's song writing and singing, which I think is a great gift, Mary!! A challenge for making a piece of jewelry based on a song would be really great. I mean, what would Eleanor Rigby look like? Or what about Philadephia Freedom and least we forget, the Lonely Goatherd song from the Sound of music!! I'm very serious here. I have had this one song in my head for eons that I want to make into a piece of jewelry and lack the motivation to do so. So what motivates me? YOU DO!!

Mary, If I was a grump, I don't think anyone would want to have anything to do with me. This is my life so I work hard to stay positive. To me your woven pieces are music with wire. The designs say so much. What a gift to hear your nephew's music.
Susan, you work better with deadlines? I do find they give a more intense focus to the work. The idea of making a piece to reflect a song is intriguing. I have never thought about it quite that way Hmmm....

I'm still exploring what gets me in the mood to make jewelry - will let you know as soon as I've found out! Susan, you made me look up the Lonely Goatherd Song! Not sure this song would inspire me to make jewelry, but a while ago I thought "The Hills Are Alive" could be an interesting challenge. If there is interest enough we could make a Sound of Music challenge? PS: I think I know now where my jewelry inspiration comes from: very very far away from jewelry. Tell me to make a pendant or earrings, and I will draw a blank. Give me a cue not at all to do with jewelry, and it unlocks something in my mind, and ideas will come buzzing like bumble bees.

I always seem to get my best ideas when I am driving alone in my car, with the radio off. I have learned to keep a notebook and pencil in the car to sketch when an inspiration occurs. And, yes, I do pull the car over first...no sketching while driving! So, there I find myself, all alone in my car and suddenly in the mood. But, unfortunately far from my workbench, with no way to satisfy the urge! ;D

I know exactly what you mean, give me deadlines and criteria to fulfil and my muse digs her heels in and simply says "You won't be telling me what to do!" ;D
