Tela, Thank you so much for your positive words. You have made my day! Creating from a song is such an inspiring yet challenging way to create. Looking forward to seeing your piece. Mary's tutorial is grand and opens new doors or gates Happy to encourage you as you do for me so many times. Thank you, my friend!

Christine, what a lovely piece! And so clever to use both Mary's and Abby's work combined as inspiration. (Btw, your enthusiasm re Abby's book was infectious - I just had to order, and got it in the mail yesterday. It is very inspiring indeed. ) I cannot see or hear the video (some legal restrictions), but I remember the song, even if somewhat vaguely.

My musical challenge piece, well... I utterly and completely missed my own goal, in an almost ridiculous way. Let me tell you the story: My song is an excerpt from the early medieval Beowulf Saga, composed, sung and played by Peter Pringle (aka Copperleaves on youtube). He is really a gifted and outstanding musician who plays an amazing number of the most exotic instruments, among them the Hurdy Gurdy and Theremin of this song. www.peterpringle.com/Hurdy-Gurdy.htmlSo this is about the Beowulf saga. Beowulf was a warrior of the 7th century or so, who slew the demon Grendel and his mother. So a piece inspired by this warrior would be strong and big and heavy. A torque (bangle) made of twisted wire, I thought. But to bend strong wire wouldn't be good for my hands at this point, so I thought about making a mock twisted torque of beads. Oh, good, yes! Off to my favourite beading shop, and got some lovely Miyuki beads, and started right away with the spiral. It turned out a nice enough slim bracelet, I think. Only, it has nothing, nothing at all in common with a wild medieval warrior... ... but see yourself.... Little Beowulfy ;D The image doesn't show, again, whatever the reason. Here's at least the link. i174.photobucket.com/albums/w87/afirthionado/littlebeowulfy-bracelet-goldpatina-on-iron-red80-CIMG4885.jpg

Whew, just got in under the wire with this one. Thank you for the heads up, Tela. If you look closely at these earrings you can see the snake skin that was pressed into the metal with the mill. Check out the youtube video that goes with this one. Fun challenge. Thanks, Tela. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5Rg0GwaobMSusan Attachments:

Mary, what a beautiful and deep song. Your choice to include indigo coloration is right on!! Will you share what you made with your nephew. I am sure that someone as soulful as he seems in Waiting for the Sunrise, would appreciate this work of art.

Christine, I have always wanted to try such a weave as what you have done. And look at the beautiful leaves you have added. That shape is so eye appealing. This is a lovely necklace. I really like the clasp to the side and front this way. You talk about how others have inspired you, well, you have inspired me to create something with a clasp in the front and to maybe try a weave such as this.

Susan, you can see the bracelet image?? I cannot - have some computer trouble, obviously. There are two instruments: the Hurdy Gurdy which he plays all the time, it is an old medieval instrument. And then the Theremin, which he plays at the end, and which sounds just like a womans voice. More tomorrow! Need to log off now!

I feel so terrible to be so behind! Both in getting my piece done and in commenting on your wonderful works! My piece is in the tumbler and will be up soon. AND, MY STORE IS FINALLY OPEN!! Argh- so much work! Renate, I LOVE the hurdy gurdy!!!!!!!! It is one of my secret passions. I love the sound, so soulful and mysterious. It's like the bagpipes for me only more exotic. I love the song, too- and your bracelet! I love the colors, so very muted and "old". I'm listening to the song again and getting goosbumps. Thank you so much for sharing- this is going on my Sansa. It really speaks to me. I can't wait to play it for my husband. he'll love it, too. He is especially fond of Beowulf, too. Did you see this movie www.imdb.com/title/tt0402057/ ? It was filmed in Iceland. Susan, your earrings are awesome and what a great video! I kept waiting for the kid to jump! LOL! You have such a great sense of humor and TASTE- the earrings are gorgeous. I really think you are developing a style all your own. Thank you for enlightening us about millwork, I was looking at one just the other day. I never gave it too much thought til I "met" you. You are inspiring! The tumbler can't tumble fast enough- I'm so anxious to get my piece up. I finished last night and realized at about 10:30 that it needed more hammering. Too late, had to wait.

Better late than never www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdLnGo8HYp0 (with lyrics) Here is a song by one of my favorite bands-Covenant (from Sweden) I hope you like them enough to check out some others. They inspire me to no end. I love their lyrics. They are so deep sometimes I have a hard time putting my thoughts to them although I can always FEEL them. I know all their music, so it is easy enough to take the entirety of their work for the meaning in their songs. I saw a dvd of one of their concerts and they are just really nice normal people. That really impressed me. The lead says his highest aspiration is to be a father. It was very hard to pick just one song to do and really I didn't because this kind of encompasses their overall message. We are humans endowed with our greatness by our Creator. This song, Greater than the Sun, means to me that beneath all of our civilized selves we are creations of the universe and are ourselves greater than the sun. Strip away all the pretense and we are each wonderful creations of our Creator and were always meant to be greater than even the sun. It is within us all to be more than we are. At least that's what it means to me and I'm sticking to it.

Renate, Thank you for your positive comments on my piece! Sorry the video doesn't work...I am challenged that way. Your piece is beautiful, the colors and the design work so well together. The video gave me chill bumps. Maybe Beowulf could give this beauty to his lady!
Susan, These earring are incredible. Your mill work amazes me we the detail it can produce. Who knew snake skin could be so beautiful! Excited my piece inspired you!!
Tela, Your piece is a wonderful representation of the song. We are creations who can strive to be our better selves.
I am impressed with the pieces and the music they were inspired by. Well Done!!

Tela you did it. And now my feet are still tapping at the thump of the heart of the music. Rad and cool choice and look at how beautifully you represented that song and even the photo of the Youtube channel. I have to know, do you tumble your stone or just the frame in the tumbler? If so, do you use stainless shot? Tela, check out this group (Katzenjammer) from Norway. They are fun and light and highly recommended by a friend of mine who lives near Oslo. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKxfiQCfEVIThank you, Tela for your very kind words about my earrings. It has taken years to try to find my style, so your comment resonates with me.

Thank you Christine and Susan Susan, that song was quite infectious and upbeat. I like it Here's something a little different, but without a doubt one of the most ecstatic singers on the planet. Her rendition of this song gives me shivers and a tear of happiness. I have one of her cd's, which is great. She is one of my favorite female singers next to Bjork. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iFBXjRbVl0&feature=related Now that I have been surfing youtube, while writing this, I am inspired to make something happy.

Had some annyoing computer problems, but now I'm back, trying to catch up, and surprise, surprise, now I can even see my own uploads. ;D But all these youtube links here are dangerous . I know I shouldn't go there, because I cannot stop under 2 hours. Usually I end up watching videos of talking cats. Or cute young squirrels or owls. www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=IQgAuBhlBT0

My favourite kind of design: simple shape, rich in details. I cannot see the snake skin, but take your word for it. In the video, that is a fake snake, right? So you think your son would like my bracelet? A young man with a good taste, obviously. ;D I hadn't thought of it for a man, because it is so slim and warrior-unlike. But why not - it is definitely unisex. If you want to find out more about the hurdy gurdy, here's an explanation of the instrument: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4y7HNW972M

When watching the link above with the hurdy gurdy explanation, I had a light bulb moment: isn't it a real steampunk instrument? Only that it isn't driven by steam, obviously. I wonder, is there a medieval equivalent to steampunk? I didn't know the movie "Beowulf and Grendel", but now I want to watch it!

It happens more and more, that videos on yt are blocked. With my German IP some contents will be blocked for me, because Germany obviously doesn't have a contract with those companies. It feels like in a dictatorship, where I cannot make my own decisions. (And I could rant on and on about this...!) Thank you that you like the bracelet - good idea, to give it to his lady.

I'm glad you like it Mary! I have been accused of having odd taste in music so many times! But, Covenant does have a big following. Although they are Swedish, they are most popular in Germany. I am so moved by them...
