Any ideas, tips, suggestions? Turquoise and coral set by Cook On Strike, on Flickr Have to pack this set today and I'm a bit panicking.. Earrings go on the earring card, and the necklace..? O is it better to make one mega card, tie the necklace with ribbons to it and stick earrings in the middle? Halp

Large card- drape necklace across the front, hold in place with twist wires through holes, bring the rest of necklace to back, place in baggie and tape down- put earrings in the middle?

That's an option too, thanks But I think it's better to keep it "flat" and on one "level" for shipping? - folding the necklace over the card will make the whole thing double as thick and if it gets squeezed, the stones/links may get damaged? I cannot use super strong (and heavy) boxes, because the whole package must be under 100g.. trying to imagine the worst case scenario.. I'm a bit paranoid about shipping

Yeah, I'm not too good about packaging ideas and paranoid, too. I'm really sweating the whole boxes and shipping thing myself.
I meant to say---- What a BEAUTIFUL set!! Love the colors. It looks Native American. For a Lithuanian, you pulled that look off real well. ;D

Laura, I don't have any ideas for packaging but I sure do find that necklace very striking! I just love the contrasting colors.

Thank you, girls The set will land in West Virginia in a couple of weeks.. Sad to let it go, but I hope it will feel at home there I'm just back home with a lovely chocolate color sturdy cardboard box, and what do you think... the box alone weights 60 grams.. The set + box + envelope is 103 grams and that's even without all the bubblewrap and the card.. I'm stressing out. ..I can pack it anyway and pay almost double for shipping, or make a handmade box which will be under 30g.. but not as sturdy and not as "chocolate"..

I've just started selling, so not many sales at all But 100% of them are intl. Apart from custom orders for a really simple (lego) stuff, I haven't made a single local sale. No, it's not painfull at all it doesn't make any difference if you ship locally or internationally - the packaging issues are the same: protect the item and save on weight. And make it nice My post office is stupid, they don't have any rates in between 100 and 500 grams. It's either under 100g or under 500g. If my packet is 110g, I'd pay the same as for something that's 490g.. This time I was caught unprepared because I haven't really thought how to pack the sets before placing them in the shop. I did weight the larger items to estimate if I'd manage to pack them in the "under 100g" (to set the shipping price), but hadn't made any cards for them and hadn't "practiced" packing By the way, Tela, I did as you suggested, and folded the necklace over the card. Looked safe enough to leave it that way. The box is handmade and it turned out quite sturdy (I did it differently this time) and the total weight of packet is 69 grams! And it seems I'm starting to like making boxes ;D

Laura, I am so impressed with your presentation. It is BEAUTIFUL!! But, I have to admit, it scares me a little. I don't know that I will be able to be so creative when my time comes. Making my own boxes would certainly solve A LOT of problems for me, though. Care to share some links on making boxes? I wouldn't know where to start.

Well, I do my boxes "from the head" and without templates,- just a piece of cardboard, a ruler, cutting board and stanley knife. I'm thinking on writing a photo tutorial so I don't forget myself how to make them (I have "invented" 2 designs - this one is from two A4 pieces of cardboard and the one on my website that I used for earrings is from one - that one is less sturdy by design.) One box takes about 10 minutes to make, and my method is step by step based on simple geometry- I start at one side and go from there without exact measurements or much planning. Difficult to explain without pics..

I'm thinking you must have made a square or rectangle, cut corners out and scored the lines to connect the squares. Something like that. I'm just wondering, did you tape the corners on the inside or have doubled over edges on the top? Yours looks so neat.
Maybe I do need a tute ;D

I don't know if it is the best place, but I have used Fetpak for a long time. I haven't compared too many prices. They seem very competitive, though. I got some from rio that were on sale, too. Generally, I think they are high.

Thanks Tela, I will check out Fetpak. I too think Rio is high on packaging when not on sale.
